Wii lead over PS3 narrow in latest Japan charts Sales for Nintendo Co.'s Wii video game console narrowed against Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 in the latest Japan retail data.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that Wii sold 24,932 units between Oct. 15 and Oct. 21. By comparison, the PS3 sold 17,130 units in the same period.
The hardware ranked in No. 3 and No. 4 positions, respectively. Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 ranked below with far less movement at No. 6.
Last week, the action title Lair helped increase PS3 sales in Japan to 12,365 units.
Sony this month price cut the PS3 in Japan by 10 percent to spur sales in the territory. In addition, it will offer a 40GB PS3 SKU on Nov. 11.
While the Wii lead over PS3 has narrowed, the motion-sensitive hardware carried a 4-to-1 lead in sales between Apr. and Sept. according to game magazine publisher Enterbrain.
Sony this week posted a quarterly profit, despite an increased loss in its game division.
